Have you chosen the best method for making money online?

There is a very simple reason why some of us may not be making enough money online, and it is so obvious, yet many of us may have overlooked it at one time or another. Quite a few people are starting to realise that what they have been doing in the outside world is not going to make them wealthy enough to live the life that they would like, and so have turned to the internet to replace or supplement their income. This is great idea, and a smart thing to do, yet when they get online they can sometimes fall into the same trap as in their working life. They choose a method of creating an income that is going to become another job, and not generate the kind of wealth that they are seeking. This may sound silly but sometimes the reason for us getting nowhere is that we may simply have chosen the wrong vehicle to get us there.

Is what I'm doing going to get me where I want to go?

What does this mean exactly? Well let's say that you want to make enough money to retire using your online business. Stop for a second and ask yourself how much you will need to do that. For arguments sake, lets just say you are already making three thousand five hundred dollars a month in your job, so you will need at least that to retire. Is the method that you have chosen to make money online actually ever going to make three thousand five hundred dollars per month?

If the answer is yes, then you next need to consider:

• What will it take to get to that level of income (what sort of effort will you have to put in), and

• How long will it take to get there?

Are you willing to pay this price?

If the answer to both of these questions is acceptable to you then great, but if not then you need to move on and find something else that can give you what you want. This may or may not mean that you need to quit, instead you may need to branch out into different areas or methods of making money. Find another way forward or think of a new way to approach what you are trying to achieve and try out some different methods. Also be aware that you may already be making money without actually realising it (wouldn't that be nice!) by creating an asset. What I mean by this is that sometimes the profit is not made until you sell something. Have you created something that you can sell, such as a website? Some people even make big money by selling something as simple as their domain name! Or you may be able to sell some articles that you have already written or turn them into an e-book, for example. The point is to look at what you have already done and to see if you can turn any of it into cash instead of just throwing it away.

Do I need to start over?

Of course you may just be happy to supplement your income with a few extra dollars, and if you are doing that then great. However if you have invested a lot of time and effort into something but you realise isn't going to get you where you want to go, then you may just need to quit while you are ahead and move on. There is no use flogging a dead horse and so the answer may be that you simply need to scrap everything and start again. Try to find a lesson that you may have learned that you can use to your advantage. You then need to move forward and look for an opportunity that is worthwhile. What you will need to look for is a method that generates a significant profit and also is in high demand.

How will I know where the money is?

So how can you know if what you are doing will make you the money that you would like? Reading forums is a good start. If you can't get a bit of an idea from existing posts in a forum then ask somebody. The thing that I have noticed on the net is that there are so many people willing to help a newbie out. On hubpages for example there are plenty of people who will only too happily tell you exactly the kind of results that they are getting, and how long they took to get those results. You can get a really good idea of what is involved and how long it will take for you to do the same thing. Are those results what you are looking for? If the answer is yes then that is great. You then need to find someone who is already doing the kind of things that you would like to do, and achieving the same kind of results that you would like to have. Then you need to follow them - read their hubs and advice, learn from them and put it into practise. Don't wait for the 'time to be right ' just go ahead and try it - learn as you go.

So that is one simple reason why you may not be making the money that you would like to make online.You may simply be spending all of your time on a method that is not going to get you what it is that you want, and have not really thought about it. As I said - It is really obvious, but I still find it surprising how many people (including myself at times) are so busy working hard on things that even if they work, will never generate enough income to achieve what it is that some of us really would like - Financial independence.
