Where to publish articles now that google has changed the rules (again!)
84HubPages plummets in Google search results
Hi, I can see that this question was written 4 months ago, however in just the last week or so google has changed their search algorithm to exclude low-quality content. As a consequence hubpages, ezine articles and squidoo have taken a dive in the search engine results. This probably will not be permanent, as they are apparently still tweaking the algorithm, and I am sure that any high quality articles on these sites will still rank well.
What do these changes mean?
What these changes mean is that google are well aware of the techniques that people are using to overcome their low search engine rankings, and they are determined to stamp these out.
Littering the internet with low-quality articles may work temporarily, but it is now a redundant form of SEO and to continue doing it is just fighting against the tide. This is not a judgement, and I have certainly used this technique for myself in the past.
Google wants to make sure that when someone is searching for something, they will receive high quality search results, and this is understandable. The best way to deal with these changes is to go with them - there is no point trying to fight it, why not use this as an opportunity instead?
The challenge is now to produce high quality original articles - quality, not quantity.
If you really have to, it is my understanding that you can usually reproduce the same article on different sites - so long as you link directly back to the original article (No longer on HubPages though!)
The downside to doing this is that Google will only list the original document in their search results. What they do not want is for someone to do a search and have your article taking up more than one spot in the results.
If you're using poor quality content then Google is onto you!
So.. What is the good news?
The good news is that there are now an increasing number of sites that will publish your high quality content, providing you do not publish it elsewhere. Some of these sites will pay you for your articles, and most won't allow you to include any affiliate links but you can place a link/s to your site or blog.
I have listed three sites below that you can use, and you will no doubt find more with a quick search on google (a good test of the new algorithm lol:) Since this is turning into a long reply, perhaps I will write more on this topic once I do further research.
I also agree with findyoursearch, that starting your own site and blog is a great idea if you have a lot of good content to use.
Sites that you can use to generate income and traffic:
1) http://www.associatedcontent.com/
This is the world’s largest source of community-created content and is part of the The Yahoo Contributor Network . They will pay you between $1.15 - $2.00 per 1000 views of each article, depending on where on their network it is published.
2) http://www.digitaljournal.com/
If you like to write news articles, then this may be the site for you.It is devoted entirely to news stories and anybody can contribute. Profits of the site are shared amongst the writers and your income is based on a number of factors.
These factors include the total likes and page views that your articles receive, and whether you are writing a news vs an opinion piece. There are also bonuses for on-the-ground reports and interviews, and you can receive your income via PayPal.
3) http://www.lulu.com/
If you have a collection of related articles, why not put them all together as a book? Lulu.com distribute, sell and print books to order, and they are a good choice for creating an ebook that is compatible with all devices.
An ebook can have the added bonus of providing embedded links to your site, which will bring you highly targeted traffic. Even a physical book can be used to advertise your site and bring more traffic.
The best part is that creating a book on Lulu.com costs nothing! It only cost you when someone purchases an item, and lulu will keep 20% of the profit to cover this. You can receive your income from Lulu via paypal.
4) http://blogcarnival.com/bc
A blog carnival is basically an online magazine. It is a community where like minded bloggers gather together and share their articles. Editions of the carnival consist of a blog post with links to various articles on a particular topic. These editions come out on a regular basis eg fortnightly.
5) http://www.prweb.com/
PR web is a site for publishing a press release, or short newsworthy article. If there is something unique or newsworthy about your blog, then you may want to write a press release about it. Once approved, PRWeb will distribute your release to every major news site and search engine on the internet. This will provide you with a large audience of consumers and journalists.
6) Twitter and Facebook
If you have a twitter and/or a facebook account then you can get more traffic from placing links to your articles on these sites.
7) Article sites
I have noticed that eHow.com still seems to be ranking well. By publishing articles on this site and others like it (e.g. ezine articles) you can provide links and traffic to your other content on the web.
8) Social Bookmarking
Social bookmarks are descriptions of an article that are stored online. If someone reads your description and is interested in the article, they click on the link which will bring them to your site. These bookmarks make it easy for people to vote on or share interesting articles that they find with others. Ideally you are looking for sites with 'do-follow' links, which will also help your article to rise in the search engine rankings.
You can find a list of social bookmarking sites here:

More traffic strategies
Since low-quality article marketing is now redundant, the focus in the near future will be creating relationships with other people from your niche, in communities and social networking sites such as hubpages and facebook.
Once you develop your blog, especially if you have a lot of great content, you can then form relationships with other popular bloggers and do some guest blogging on their high-traffic sites. This will get you some highly targeted links and traffic back to your site, as well as furthering your reputation in your area of expertise.
If you are thinking that this is unrealistic, then think again!
These gigs are all over the internet, just do a search for "guest bloggers wanted", and look for a site that is ranking well in your niche. Following the link below for an example of what I am talking about.

Awesome hub! Yeah, Google wants to see high quality content which LITERALLY improves their own search results. We have to provide value, write informative articles, and build a relationship with the reader and of course with Google.

Guest blogging is a great option as well as writing ebooks to publish on the amazon kindle.
Great hub, excellent reading. Just as well that I have moved away from squidoo and ezine articles. I did notice ehow becoming more dominant in the search engines
Some really great information here. Glad I checked out the answers to the question regarding more hub traffic. I'm printing for my reference folder. Does Digg and stumbleupon come into this at all? Thanks.

Some good information here. Thanks I will be sure to check out some of your other hubs as well. I have seen Google's changes fluctuate my AdSense earnings as of late, it seems they are picking back up a bit now. My Page CTR is taking the biggest hit for some reason, same amount of impressions though.
